Hyunju Jang studied the effect of the sun on the Tongyeong-jib (통영집) project. Tongyeong-jib project is a house renovation for a retiree in Tongyeong, South Korea. With existing problems of poor thermal protection, making it freezing cold in winter, Jang focused on the use of sunlight in the renovation of the house. Utilising the sun can effectively reduce energy costs. However, excessive solar heat can increase cooling energy consumption. For this reason, the renovation design should appropriately integrate solar heat regarding seasonal variations. This post illustrates solar radiation and daylight access of the existing house.
